M&S Meet The WM Favorite-Least Favorite Moments

Postby Andrew80 » February 2nd, 2016, 1:52 pm

Ok, the very best X-Files episode since 1999, favorite/least favorite moments.

Favorite: Pretty much everything, but for me, "I forgot how much fun these cases can be" tops it all. Yes, Scully, that's what this is all about! :) The very end of the episode and Scully stealing a puppy from the animal shelter are also moments very close to my heart. This episode definitely redeems the whole revival, no matter what happens in the next three. Considering that CC wrote and directed two of these, I must say I'm not much of an optimist, but who cares. :)

Least favorite moments-to tell the truth, for me it was all good. Ok, maybe the "sex scene" was a bit overplayed by Gillian but mind you, it was still good (and in addition, I think every woman would kill to look like THAT at age 48).

Agreed. It was great!

I literally laughed out loud when he was making up gobbledegook to sell phones ("This model comes with 3000 gigaberts of pixel bits" and "it's got a rectangular shape"), then "By the end of the day, I was the manager." lol 8-)

Although the story was completely ridiculous, I found myself laughing along. I now find myself wishing that this was a 12 episode season, I really think that the actors need more time to slip back into their roles gain, I could actually see the old Mulder and Scully in this episode and I've been seriously struggling up until this point.

I love that they brought back the stoners, I love that Mulder and Scully have come up to date with their tech, despite Mulder being pretty naff with it, I loved the injokes... I genuinely think that the writers have been trawling the fanfiction archives! Scully mentioning her supposed immortality, Mulder's red speedo.. sigh. This is what we need to see more of.

I agree that both actors have not completely found their footing yet, barchick, though this one was better than the first two in that regard (strange that this would be true for E2, as it was filmed fifth, but some of that could be the writing for the characters).

Make sure you check out the thread I did that tells of many of the Easter Eggs, as there were some really good ones that I (and I imagine many people) missed initially.

My review + study on differences between original 2005 script and 2015 script: http://www.eatthecorn.com/2016/02/03/10x3-mulder-and-scully-meet-the-were-monster/
In short, a great, intelligent episode -- which is already better than most TV -- but some weaknesses nevertheless, and not as good as Darin's previous masterpieces.

Keep in mind, Guy Mann's only exposure to sex came through the porn he was watching in his hotel room. So his exaggeration of how Scully would have acted towards him (if it had even happened) would have her overplaying it like in a porno :) Thought this was a nice touch I realized only on a second viewing!

I've got decidedly mixed feelings about this episode. There were certainly laugh-out-loud moments, and I appreciated all the gags and nods toward the series that only die-hard fans would know, and I understand the episode is a parody of sorts of the entire series and specifically the MOTW episodes. Definitely see it as a sequel of sorts to Jose Chung's 'From Outer Space.'

But I guess, and this is only IMHO, the episode toes the line between clever nods and parody and ridiculousness. I love the more comedic episodes of the series ("Bad Blood" and "Syzygy" are two favorites) but this episode just overdoes it at certain points. Specifically, I think Guy's telling of... well, everything... was too expository. Maybe it's just a case of where the individual elements are greater (and funnier) than the sum. Loved Kumail Nanjiani's character and thought it was great that someone as big a fan as he was cast in the episode. And Rhys Darby was the best choice for the Were-Monster.

Overall, no doubts in my mind this is a "good" episode, but I hesitate it in labeling it as some of the reviewers as "genius." IMHO, and certainly subject to change :P

I really liked this ep! :)

Favorite: M & S moments -- these were the characters I knew and loved (only other time I felt that way so far was during parts of My Struggle)... Mulder becoming friends with the monster

Least Favorite: Scully/Were-Monster sex scene, just not my cup of tea

Loved Mulder struggling with the modern phone to take the pictures, also, that his phone played the XF theme tune! Enjoyed the motel scene, Mulder kept telling Scully what she was going to say, when she could hardly get a word in edgeways, Piper's drawing of the monster, hard to believe that all those years have gone by. For those tuning in for the first time, they must have been a bit confused thinking it was supposed to be a serious show about aliens and conspiracies!
