Episodes "12 rated"?

Postby half_empty » March 5th, 2016, 11:51 am

Hi there. To introduce myself I'm in the UK and was a massive X files fan back in the day, and still love it. I religiously watched the first five seasons or so before admittedly drifting away at the time. I was very pleased to see the new mini-series and after an uncertain start it picked up nicely.

Anyway, I was enthusing to my son about this cool show that was on when I was a teenager and is now back on TV. He was interested so we watched the recent Were-Monster episode together which he liked, although a couple of bits weren't really suitable for his age.

I'm trying to make a list of episodes that would be OK for him to watch as he's getting into the series so nice to share something together. Probably the standalone episodes not not necessarily.

The whole 9 seasons are on Amazon Instant! So far we've watched: Tooms/Squeeze, Darkness Falls, Ice and The Host.

Thing is, apart from watching on VHS over 10 years ago I haven't watched them since the original run.

Can members suggest some suitable episodes for his age? I don't mind a bit of violence as long as it is not too gory/bloody. Jump scares are OK but nothing too psychological or violence on women. No sex/porn references (Mulder you scamp!). Some laughs would be good too.

Thanks all

Here are some episodes off the top of my head that don't really have anything too objectionable or violent:

Dod Kalm (S2)
Fearful Symmetry (S2)
War of the Coprophages (S3)
Quagmire (S3)
Detour (S5)
The Post-Modern Prometheus (S5)
Bad Blood (S5)
Triangle (S6)
Dreamland/Dreamland II (S6)
How the Ghosts Stole Christmas (S6)
The Rain King (S6)
Agua Mala (S6)
Monday (S6)

Welcome, half_empty!

It's great to be able to watch it with your kids! I've done watch-throughs with both of my daughters (only one of my three boys has any interest in the show, unfortunately).

Here's a few that I think are fairly safe:

"Small Potatoes"
"Je Souhaite"
"Bad Blood"
"Post-Modern Prometheus" (there's some implied rape, but it's pretty vague and not shown)
"Humbug"
"Jose Chung's 'From Outer Space'"
The first movie "Fight the Future"
"War of the Copaphrages"
"The Amazing Maleeni"
"The Goldberg Variation" (young Shia Labouf)

There are some good suggestions here thanks!

I remember War of the Corophages, great episode. "Greetings from planet Earth"

I definitely have to recommend this list; I started watching the series around the age of 12 and enjoyed all of these (I especially enjoyed the ones with humour such as Bad Blood). I would add Small Potatoes too! But my favourite was Hollywood AD - It's got comical zombies and people pretending their on movie sets. There is a reference to "mulder" having a flashlight in his pocket, which turns out to be an actual flashlight, but I can't remember it being too bad for children (Correct me if I'm wrong, as I do know here in NZ we have a different tolerance level compared to you guys int he Northern Hemisphere).
