MSR Musicality

Postby IceQueen444 » July 19th, 2011, 6:05 pm

So I haven't seen a thread like this yet.... but this is like songs that remind you of Mulder and Scully and their adorable relationship! I found one recently.

So the one that is in the forefront of my mind this second is Taylor Swift's new song "Sparks Fly"
The song

Ah! Now this is a topic the remnants of my 14-year-old mind can cling to.

Sheryl Crow: I Shall Believe

Come to me now
And lay your hands over me
Even if it's a lie
Say it will be alright
And I shall believe

I'm broken in two
And I know you're on to me
That I only come home
When I'm so all alone
But I do believe

That not everything is gonna be the way
You think it ought to be
It seems like every time I try to make it right
It all comes down on me
Please say honestly you won't give up on me
And I shall believe
And I shall believe

Open the door
And show me your face tonight
I know it's true
No one heals me like you
And you hold the key

Never again
Would I turn away from you
I'm so heavy tonight
But your love is alright
And I do believe

That not everything is gonna be the way
You think it ought to be
It seems like every time I try to make it right
It all comes down on me
Please say honestly
You won't give up on me
And I shall believe
I shall believe
And I shall believe

That not everything is gonna be the way
You think it ought to be
It seems like every time I try to make it right
It all comes down on me
Please say honestly
You won't give up on me
And I shall believe
I shall believe
And I shall believe
And I shall believe
And I shall believe
Please say honestly
You won't give up on me
And I shall believe
I shall believe
I shall believe
I shall believe
I shall believe
I shall believe

Howie Day - Collide has always reminded me of M&S <3

The dawn is breaking
A light shining through
You're barely waking
And I'm tangled up in you
Yeah

I'm open, you're closed
Where I follow, you'll go
I worry I won't see your face
Light up again

Even the best fall down sometimes
Even the wrong words seem to rhyme
Out of the doubt that fills my mind
I somehow find
You and I collide

I'm quiet you know
You make a frist impression
I've found I'm scared to know I'm always on your mind

Even the best fall down sometimes
Even the stars refuse to shine
Out of the back you fall in time
I somehow find
You and I collide

Even the best fall down sometimes
Even the wrong words seem to ryhme
Out of the doubt that fills your mind
You finally find
You and I collide

You finally find
You and I collide
You finally find
You and I collide

I'm enjoying this thread! I have some songs on my my mp 3 player that are Mulder/Scully ones, two of which are Daniel Bedingfield ones "If you're Not For me" & "Never Gonna leave Your Side" he has one of those voices that have so much feeling in it, it can reduce you to a puddle, better listen to them in bed! Another one I love is "When You say Nothing at All" I think by ronan Keating, the very first time i heard that one, it reminded me of M/S.
I owe you everything, you owe me nothing

There are so many songs that remind me of them, depending on what season we're talking about. Early season Mulder is definitely Building a Mystery by Sarah McLachlan ("You're so beautiful with an edge and a charm but so careful when I'm in your arms".) Season 4 Mulder circa Demons and Gethsemane reminds me of Ultraviolet (Light my Way) by U2 ("Feel like trash/You make me feel clean/I'm in the black/Can't see or be seen.")

Recently every time I hear You Oughta Know by Alanis Morrisette, I picture Fowley screaming the lyrics at a Mulder who has moved on with Scully ("It was a slap in the face how quickly I was replaced...")

Finally, I think of the unbearable season 8 and 9 Mulder's gone/Scully angst every time I hear Walk On by U2. I can't pick a single lyric so here's the whole blessed thing:

And love
Is not the easy thing
The only baggage
That you can bring
Not the easy thing
The only baggage you can bring
Is all that you can't leave behind

And if the darkness is to keep us apart
And if the daylight feels like it's a long way off
And if your glass heart should crack
And for a second you turn back
Oh no, be strong

Walk on
Walk on
What you got, they can't steal it
No they can't even feel it

Walk on
Walk on
Stay safe tonight

You're packing a suitcase for a place
None of us has been
A place that has to be believed
To be seen

You could have flown away
A singing bird
In an open cage
Who will only fly
Only fly for freedom

Walk on
Walk on
What you got
You can't deny it
Can't sell it or buy it

Walk on
Walk on
You stay safe tonight

And I know it aches
How your heart it breaks
You can only take so much

Walk on
Walk on

Home
Hard to know what it is
If you never had one

Home
I can't say where it is
But I know I'm going

Home
That's where the hurt is

And I know it aches
And your heart it breaks
You can only take so much
Walk on

Leave it behind
You've got to leave it behind

All that you fashion
All that you make
All that you build
All that you break

All that you measure
All that you feel
All this you can leave behind

All that you reason
All that you care

It's only time
And I'll never fill up all my mind(???)

All that you sense
All that you scheme
All you dress up
And all that you see

All you create
All that you wreck
All that you hate

I'm wlistenting the music right now and this song reminds me of M/S

Uriah Heep Lady in Black:

She came to me one morning
One lonely Sunday morning
Her long hair flowing in the midwinter wind
I know not how she found me
For in darkness I was walking
And destruction lay around me
From a fight I could not win

Ahh Ahh Ahh, Ahh Ahh Ahh Ahh

She asked me name my foe then
I said the need within some men
To fight and kill their brothers
Without thought of love or God
And I begged her give me horses
To trample down my enemies
So eager was my passion
To devour this waste of life

Ahh Ahh Ahh, Ahh Ahh Ahh Ahh

But she wouldn't think of battle that
Reduces men to animals
So easy to begin
And yet impossible to end
For she's the mother of all men
Who counselled me so wisely then
I feared to walk alone again
And asked if she would stay

Oh lady lend your hand outright
And let me rest here at your side
Have faith and trust in peace she said
And filled my heart with life

There's no strength in numbers
Have no such misconception
But when you need me
Be assured I won't be far away

Ahh Ahh Ahh, Ahh Ahh Ahh Ahh

Thus having spoke she turned away
And though I found no words to say
I stood and watched until I saw
Her black cloak disappear
My labour is no easier
But now I know I'm not alone
I'll find new heart
Each time I think upon that windy day

And if one day she comes to you
Drink deeply from her words so wise
Take courage from her as your prize
And say hello from me

Ahh Ahh Ahh, Ahh Ahh Ahh Ahh

About 11 years ago I came up a list of MSR songs, that I'd put on a soundtrack for shippers. Some of them stand the test of time over a decade later. (Keep in mind, I was a teenager when I first compiled the list. :type )Here are my favorites, in random order:

Tell Her - Del Amitri
The Dance - Garth Brooks
I Thought I'd Seen Everything - Bryan Adams
Everything I Do - Bryan Adams
All I Want Is You - U2
I Don't Wanna Miss A Thing - Aerosmith
The Power Of Love - Celine Dion
Walking After You - Foo Fighters
Strong Enough - Sheryl Crow
Kiss Me - Sixpence None The Richer
Damn, I Wish I Was Your Lover - Sophie B. Hawkins
Put Your Arms Around Me - Texas
Save The Best For Last - Vanessa Williams
Can't Help Falling In Love - UB40
You - Collective Soul
Tell Him - Celine Dion
Fix You - Coldplay
Somewhere Only We Know - Keane
She Will Be Loved - Maroon 5
The Sky Is Broken - Moby
Chasing Cars - Snow Patrol
You Could Be Happy - Snow Patrol
Run - Snow Patrol
Just Say Yes - Snow Patrol
In Our Lifetime - Texas
Say What You Want - Texas
For You I Will - Aaron Tippin
To Make You Feel My Love - Garth Brooks
I Will Always Love You - Whitney Houston

If you've not heard all of these, give them a listen.

We have some really good songs LOL I love this! Mulder POV I Wouldn't Be A Man By Josh Tunern

There's a slow moon rising
It's shining on your skin
The way your body moves me
I know there's no holdin' back
No holdin' back

I wouldn't be a man if I didn't feel like this
I wouldn't be a man if a woman like you
Was anything I could resist
I'd have to be from another planet
Where love doesn't exist
I wouldn't be a man if I didn't feel like this

I can feel passion flowing
As you fall into my arms
The secret way you touch me
Tells me there's no holdin' back
No holdin' back

I wouldn't be a man if I didn't feel like this
I wouldn't be a man if a woman like you
Was anything I could resist
I'd have to be from another planet
Where love doesn't exist
I wouldn't be a man if I didn't feel like
Roll with me baby all night long
Soul to soul with me baby all night long

I wouldn't be a man if I didn't feel like this
I wouldn't be a man if a woman like you
Was anything I could resist
I'd have to be from another planet
Where love doesn't exist
I wouldn't be a man if I didn't feel like this

Great vid. I love the collection of moments, and the song, of course, is marvelous. The end shot of them on the boat is just gravy! The X-Files helped branch out my taste in music when I first discovered Moby's music on the show. That said, I found a recent song of his that I had to set my fanvid offering to.

These are all great! nicet]

I can find Mulder and Scully in practically anything Sarah McClachlan:

"Do what you have to do" makes me think of season 2-6 especially, and the battle they both had in staying apart. I feel like it's more a Scully POV song though:

Do What You Have To Do

What ravages of spirit
conjured this temptuous rage
created you a monster
broken by the rules of love
and fate has lead you through it
you do what you have to do
and fate has led you through it
you do what you have to do ...

and I have the sense to recognize that
I don't know how to let you go
every moment marked
with apparitions of your soul
I'm ever swiftly moving
trying to escape this desire
the yearning to be near you
I do what I have to do
the yearning to be near you
I do what I have to do
[ From: http://www.elyrics.net/read/s/sarah-mcL ... yrics.html ]
but I have the sense to recognize

that I don't know how
to let you go
I don't know how
to let you go

a glowing ember
burning hot
burning slow
deep within I'm shaken by the violence
of existing for only you

I know I can't be with you
I do what I have to do
I know I can't be with you
I do what I have to do
and I have sense to recognize but
I don't know how to let you go
I don't know how to let you go
I don't know how to let you go.

Full of Grace (another Scully POV song)

Full Of Grace lyrics
The winter here's cold and bitter,
it's chilled us to the bone.
We haven't seen the sun for weeks,
too long, too far from home.
I feel just like I'm sinking,
and I claw for solid ground.
I'm pulled down by the undertow,
I never thought I could feel so low,
and, oh, darkness, I feel like letting go.

If all of the strength and all of the courage
come and lift me from this place.
I know I can love you much better than this:
Full of grace, Full of grace, my love.

It's better this way,
I said,
Haven't seen this place before.
[From: http://www.elyrics.net/read/s/sarah-mcL ... yrics.html]
Where everything we say and do,
hurts us all the more.
It's just that we stayed too long
in the same old sickly scheme,
and I'm pulled down by the undertow,
I never thought I could feel so low,
and, oh, darkness, I feel like letting go.

If all of the strength and all of the courage
come and lift me from this place
I know I can love you much better than this:
Full of grace, full of grace.

I know I can love you much better than this.

It's better this way.

Okay so I've been pretty obsessed with making the perfect MSR mixtape and this song is on repeat...

Band Of Horses
No One's Gonna Love You lyrics

It's looking like a limb torn off
Or altogether just taken apart
We're reeling through an endless fall
We are the ever-living ghost of what once was

But no one is ever gonna love you more than I do
No one's gonna love you more than I do

And anything to make you smile
It is my better side of you to admire
But they should never take so long
Just to be over then back to another one

But no one is ever gonna love you more than I do
No one's gonna love you more than I do

But someone,
They could have warned you
When things start splitting at the seams and now
The whole thing's tumbling down
Things start splitting at the seams and now
If things start splitting at the seams and now,
It's tumbling down
Hard.

Anything to make you smile
You are the ever-living ghost of what once was
I never want to hear you say
That you'd be better off
Or you liked it that way

But no one is ever gonna love you more than I do
No one's gonna love you more than I do

But someone
They should have warned you
When things start splitting at the seams and now
The whole thing's tumbling down
Things start splitting at the seams and now
If things start splitting at the seams and now,
It's tumbling down
Hard
Mulder: Scully?
Scully: Yes?
Mulder: Marry me.
Scully: I was hoping for something a little more helpful.

Somewhat offtop], but...Wow, Siven. The song you posted, "Lady in Black" by Uriah Heep has beautiful lyrics. I've heard of the band, but I don't know anything by them. "Lady in Black" makes me think of Our Lady, not Mulder and Scully! I know that She is traditionally portrayed wearing blue and white, but the lyrics of the song made me think of Her. Thanks for posting. :)
"Those characters are forever searching...Even if we’re not watching them, they’re out there, in some dimension. Mulder and Scully are still doing their thing, ‘cause that’s their nature."
David Duchovny, August 2012
