Pilot: Agent Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson) is assigned to work with Agent Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) on the X-Files in an attempt to debunk his work on the paranormal. Their first case has them investigating apparent alien abductions. A near comatose man, Billy Miles (Zachary Ansley), is taking his classmates, including Theresa Nemman (Sarah Koskoff), into the woods, where they are killed in a flash of bright light.

Gave it a perfect 5, what more can we ask, it's the beginning of the greatest Sci Fi adventure on TV.

Milagro - Agent Scully falls in love but that's obviously impossible. Agent Scully is already in love.

I gave it a "4." It is very nearly a perfect episode, and one of the best pilot episodes ever made.

I gave it a "3". It's a good episode, but it's also very uneven and the acting is a annoyingly amateurish at times, so a "3" is fair, imo.

Well I gave it a "3" since this is what I remember thinking at the time way back in '93. I liked it, but had no idea just what was going to happen next. And I'd been looking for more gov't conspiracy. But it was only in later episodes that I came to have a better appreciation of the importance of the groundwork presented in the pilot... So today I'd give it a 4 or 4.5. But I'm OK with the 3: otherwise I'd have been disappointed if subsequent eps didn't measure up! Now I love going back to it, to remind myself that This is where it all began!!!

Gave this one a 5 b/c well it's the ep that set everything in motion. The fate of the series depended on whether this episode intrigued viewers. And for its time, i thought it was a great ep, even when I watch it now. It had everything, the banter, the tension, the beginning of the mytharc.
When it comes to two evils, I always pick the one I havent tried.

I gave it a 4 just because it could do with some improvement in the special effects! alien]

A 3 from me. Good episode, sets up the entire series but not the most mysterious or impressive. It did draw me in however, so it satisfied its purpose.

I voted a 5. Though I agree the acting is a little amateur at times throughout the episode, the episode was carried off very well. It definitely kept me interested enough throughout the episode to keep watching.

Earlier this year I started a blog space for reviews of classic shows called Retro TV Reviews, and I covered TXF S1 starting with, of course, the 'Pilot'. Here's a link to my review:

https://retrotvreviews.wordpress.com/20 ... x01-pilot/

If anyone is interested, I'll post my thoughts on the rest of the season in the appropriate threads.

I haven't read the entire thing yet (only about half), but so far it's really well written. Great job, AJBlack!

Thanks very much. Some aren't quite in that detail, admittedly, but it was fun penning them. I'll start throwing up the rest.
